Can a food truck or pop-up business use Starlink?
THE SHORT ANSWER
A food truck or pop-up can assess Starlink for connectivity where cellular service is unreliable, provided the operating location, power arrangement and service plan fit the job. Test the actual payment devices at the event position. A portable terminal does not by itself provide a business-ready payment system.

Where will the terminal sit during trading?
- Assess the actual parking space or stall, including awnings, adjacent vehicles, trees and nearby buildings.
- Choose a secure terminal position and a cable route away from customer queues, service windows and vehicle movement.
- Identify who can approve mounting or temporary equipment placement at the venue.
- Plan setup and pack-down ownership, including inspection of connectors and a secure storage location.
- Check the connection again after the venue fills with stalls, trucks and event structures.

Does a personal travel plan cover commercial use?
Starlink’s current US Service Plan Descriptions prohibit business use on Roam Unlimited and apply the same terms to Roam 100 GB and 300 GB. Review an eligible business plan for the proposed operation. Hardware portability and permission to use a particular subscription are separate decisions.
Describe whether service is needed only while parked or also while the vehicle is moving. The latter needs a specific review of the hardware, mount, territory and current plan conditions. Do not infer approval from a roof-mounted terminal or a seller’s description of the kit.

What payment tests matter before opening?
| Check | What the operator should confirm |
|---|---|
| Payment device | The real reader or terminal connects in its working position |
| Order flow | Orders reach the intended display or printer without duplicates |
| Receipts and synchronization | The expected records reach the back office |
| Connection loss | Staff recognize the processor’s offline state and follow its instructions |
| Recovery | Queued records reconcile and staff confirm the final payment status |
| Power transition | The connection survives the planned switch between power sources, or the restart procedure is understood |

Is offline payment mode an adequate fallback?
It can be part of the operating plan, but pending payment is not the same as completed payment. Square explains that offline transactions can later complete or decline, and the seller bears the risk of expired, declined or disputed payments. Its instructions also warn against signing out, deleting the app or resetting hardware while payments are pending.
Use the processor’s current instructions for the exact device. An event team should know who checks pending payments and who makes the decision to pause trading. A second internet path cannot repair an outage inside the payment provider’s own service.

How should the power arrangement be planned?
List the terminal, router, payment hardware and any order printer that needs to keep working. Measure or obtain their power requirements and have a competent installer review the supply, connectors and weather exposure. A battery advertised by capacity alone does not establish the runtime of the complete setup.
Run a rehearsal long enough to expose the operating routine: arrival, setup, a busy trading period, connection recovery and shutdown. Record what staff must carry, charge or replace. For repeat venues, retain a short site note so each shift does not rediscover the same parking and obstruction constraints.
