01 / PLANNING
Start with a business consequence
A Bend office losing a cloud application and a rural operation losing dispatch access have different priorities. Describe the outage problem, existing provider and systems that need a fallback. This keeps the specification tied to useful work instead of a theoretical maximum download speed.
02 / PLANNING
Confirm who manages the network
Identify the MSP or internal administrator who owns the router settings. Provide the equipment model and planned Ethernet handoff. Ask for a separate line item if automatic failover, monitoring or network policy changes are needed; those tasks are not implied by mounting a satellite terminal.
03 / PLANNING
Approve a controlled acceptance check
Schedule a safe window to simulate loss of the primary link, test agreed workflows and restore normal service. Record any applications that behave differently on the backup connection. Include the power path for the terminal, router and essential network equipment.
| Part of the project | Information that helps |
|---|---|
| Business input | Outage impact and priority applications |
| Technical input | Router owner, handoff and backup power |
| Acceptance input | Failover observation, application checks and return to primary |
